'Get started today for just £1 using the code ‘FHSANTA14’. Code expires 2 January 2015'

This is the offer I saw, but when I entered the code, it displayed 1 month for £6.95 and 12 months for £10.  It never entered my head that it was their mistake, I just thought I had read it incorrectly.   ::)
I'm not young enough to know everything.

I think some one just made a huge mistake, presumably their computers must have been programmed to allow it to be added to a year's subscription, otherwise why didn't it come up straight away as void?

Findmypast may have a legal out if they did not actually make the offer of 10GBP for a years subscription. The only place I have seen an offer with that code is in the FFHS Ezine email and that said   Get started today for just £1 using the code ‘FHSANTA14’. Code expires 2 January 2015 It does not state a subscription period but would have been meant for a 1 month subscription, someone may have accidentally found that the 90% discount intended for the 1 month subscription also worked on the 1 year subscription and so it spread.

Andy

may? would have meant?

are you kidding? This is part of DC Thompson, they don't deal in puzzling their customers.  Companies HOPE for word of mouth, for good reviews to get around, for special offers to get around.   I don't know where snowy, the originator of this thread found the offer but was perfectly entitled to share it here. Plenty of people took advantage and shared again and why shouldn't they? The fact that FindMyPast had no brakes on this offer, either by scrutinising before release or confining it to one offer per customer is not the customer's fault.  Once again they have shown they are slack and unprofessional.

I can't believe its the same company of 12 months ago.  Sad.

Parmesan, considering you have such a low opinion of the site and the company, why did you bother taking them up on the offer?  And, for that matter, twice as you've admitted previously on this thread.

The more negative feedback over this error, and lets face it errors do occur on a lot of sites and in other computer services, the more chance they will try and revoke all the subscriptions.  Their T&Cs state that the contract is concluded when they send out a confirmation email, something which is no doubt though automatic.

Rather than people speculating as to what is going to happen, and it is still speculation whatever has been posted on a certain Facebook page and whatever the impression given by FindMyPast Customer Support in emails to those who weren't lucky enough to make use of the discount on an annual sub, perhaps people should just wait and see and hold off on any criticism which may adversely affect the position of those who did manage to take up the offer in good faith.

I've not received any email/notification about my £10 subscription being in error but I've just checked my card account and it has gone through.  My home page on FindMyPast is still showing a subscription until 2017.

Hello RootsChatters,

The Offer was also available on this site:
http://www.retailmenot.com/view/findmypast.co.uk?c=6475426

I hope all goes well for everyone who were able to secure the Membership for the Year.
I missed out on the Yearly Offer, as I was assessing the situation, a little too long.
However, I did take them up on the Monthly Offer, which I have done so previously.
This suits me fine, it works well with the unlimited access for Britain and I also still have Credits with my World Pay-As-You-Go Yearly Membership, which will keep me going for a while, until the next offer comes along or Free Access Weekends (if any?).
I keep hoping 'Ancestry' or 'Scotland's People', may one day be a little more generous.

All good things come to an end -Find my Past £10 subscription
« Reply #114 on: Thursday 11 December 14 15:32 GMT (UK) »
I have just received my email from a.hannan at FindMyPast :-X

FindMyPast have made a mistake :-[

For a short period, it was possible to also use the discount code for a purchase of an annual subscription and I can see that you have managed to purchase a £99.50 subscription at the price of £10.  That was our mistake and I have now corrected that by refunding your £10 payment and cancelling that annual subscription   :'(

Anyone else get one of these?   :o

Just had an email from FindMyPast cancelling the subscription I bought with their £10 offer - they are very sorry for their error apparently and are refunding my money. I'm not surprised really , nice try anyway !
