my granddad was in the 6th city of London I believe his cap badge
was made of iron can anybody verify this and what was the reason
if there was one

The seller does not explain why he has iron in the title. As rifles they did favour dark badges and buttons.

The regimental nickname was "The Cast Iron Sixth" as well as some other nicknames.

BTW google The cast iron sixth there are some great books on its exploits in ww1, think I will buy one myself
