Your ancestors couldn't have a more romantic setting for their last resting-place. In its heyday St. Andrews Cathedral, now in ruins, was the biggest church in Scotland, built along the same lines as Durham Cathedral. It sits on a headland looking out to sea. The 19th c. artist Sam Bough did some atmospheric paintings of the cathedral ruins, e.g.

I was really pleased to be given the information regarding the MI for Thomas Fairfoul & Ann Landale as I was getting very confused. I had been pretty sure I had these as the right parents for 'my' James Fairfoul until I found an entry in the St Andrews Deeds on the Fife FHS page that said the eldest (surviving) son of Thomas & Ann was a JOHN. The baptism & burials show that James was older than John so if John was the eldest then James must have died (& therefore couldn't be 'my' James)!

Which branch of Fairfouls are you following?
