Can anyone help please. I have a battle of waterloo medal that is named with the mans Christian name and surname, but have seen others where ranks have been included on the medals rim.
What is the norm ?
should the mans rank be on the medal or just his name

Looking at some auction results it is about 60% of medals without a rank. The ranked ones appear to be to officers and sergeants. Someone on the British Medal Forum may have done a more thorough analysis.
