Fair point Mike,

But for a student living at the opposite end of the county to where all there ancestors were born, married and died then this is the only way I can afford do any reseach.  I don't think it takes the kill out of the chase, I have had loads of help for the wonderful people on here and would never be able to do my family tree otherwise, the excitement of someone replying to a message on here is just as great as finding the information yourself.  If I could visit all those local GRO's or Kew etc then I'd be the 1st in the que.  But it's just not possible.  You must have a lot of time on your hands and a lot of money to spare.

I for one don't expect someone to hand me my whole tree on a plate but as a team we manage to chip away the surface and help everyone discover their past which I believe is the whole point of this website.

Certainly for those who are abroad, I think this is a vital resource.  Plus subscribtion to vairious internet resources is not always affordable and many of the things I currently require are not on the internet as yet anyway.

Sorry I just had to get that out of my system,

Best of Luck with your research

Whoaa there nelly you gave you a badge and made you sheriff? ???

For info I have spent a hell of a lot of money on CD Roms, Internet sites, Microfiche, Birth, Death and Marriage certs.  I have just spent £84 on Microfiche for one parish alone.

I have visited numerous cemeteries around the Country taking a million and one photos of gravestones etc.

Mike and I provide a free, yes free look up service to assist, aid, help people in anyway we can with the information we have.  Other people are not so lucky to have a money tree in the garden, other people require that little bit of help to get past their brickwalls!

My problem is I live in Cornwall and cannot get up to Leicester and Rutland every 5 minutes to answer a query I have, so this is why this board is so very good at what it provides!

As for missing the thrill not a chance ;)

Hope this sorts out your confusion?

Paul

Apology accepted! :)

I have in the past asked to look up 51,61 ect etc but I feel I offer the same amout back to the board with the look ups I provide and nine times out of 10 Mike from Leic usually replies to my request as we have a good research relationship going on.

As for the copyright thing, I don't think its a problem for census look ups as pay per view websites offer them and the images.  This is unless these website's pay a percentage to each county?

I think your safe unless told so by the information your offering.  I once offered look ups for Liskeard baptisms which I purchased from a local firm down here, only to be informed that I was in breach of their copyright.  I had not read the disc properly.  I immediately removed the offer and sent an email of apology which they accepted.

Maybe somebody else can throw their 10 pence worth in!  I'm sure Mike from Leicester will have an answer.

These societies cannot be losing out when they charge £3.50 per fiche and there are people like me who will pay to get the information.

Regards

Paul
