Finding Deaths in Michigan, 1953-1970
« on: Wednesday 26 November 14 00:44 GMT (UK) »

How can I find death dates of Michigan (Wayne County) residents between 1953-1970 without paying $26 each. Only need dates and not the full death certificate. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Glen

Have you tried these links?

www.findagrave.com
or
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/location/17?region=United States
or
http://www.deathindexes.com/michigan/wayne.html

If Jewish, I don't believe the Jewish Cemetery Index is still online.   Instead, you can look through
the Archive of the Detroit Jewish News Foundation for possible death listings.

http://djnfoundation.org/the-archive/

If you wish to state the names and possible death dates, someone might be able to help you find them.

For the later years in that time frame, you may be able to find them on the Social Security Death Index, although sometimes it only gives month and year.  You can search it specifically here - https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1202535

There are some online city directories for towns/cities in Wayne Co. from the 1950's/1960's, which could narrow down the time frame or sometimes they provide a date of death.

Hi Guys,

I thank you for your reply's but maybe I should have been a bit more precise. Have checked different sites 1867-1897,1897-1920, 1921-1952, 1971-1976 and I'm familiar with SSDI.

These 2 that I'm searching is husband and wife, Richard & Katharyn Smith that are on the 1910, 1920. 1930, and 1940 Census living in Detroit. They have Headstones in Hillside Cemetery, St. Clair, Michigan. Richard's is 1892-(blank) He died in April 1970 but trying to find day. Katharyn's headstone has 1886 - 1962 which is too early for SSDI but also not listed anywhere that I can find. These pair are really distance relatives but have them in my tree so feel that I should show the respect and have the correct dates. Checked with the cemetery but they don't have burial records for any of this family, 9 of them.

Now, hope you have a few more ideas.

Thanks,
Glen
