burial look up request for john green and wives.
« on: Sunday 23 November 14 22:09 GMT (UK) »
I have come to a compete stop on my research for my gg granfather John Green, who was born in 1791 in Needham Market, and is listed as died bosmere around January 1879. I visited Needham market recently to look for his grave, or that of either of his wives, 1st margaret, and second Sarah who was 35 years his junior, all with no success. I now understand that burials took place at nearby barking, and wondered if anyone would be kind enough to help me in my search for the graves or any inscriptions, that may help me in my quest to trace my familt further.

Thank you

Derek

The church at Needham Market was a chapel of ease, and all events were carried out at St Mary's church in Barking, so records for baptisms, marriages and burials will be with the SRO, all branches carry parish records but anything else pertaining to the parish will be at the Ipswich branch.

More on Suffolk churches can be found on Simon's web site, including the parish church at Barking.

Hello Derek

The Suffolk Burial Index lists some GREEN burials in Barking but none that match your search.  I did however find this one

Margaret GREEN, wife of John (tailor) buried 1 Apr 1853 Needham Market Independant Congregational

Thats matched by an entry on FreeBMD Margaretta GREEN, March Qtr 1853 ref: 4a/389 Bosmere RD.

FreeBMD also lists John GREEN age 88 death Mar Qtr Ref 4a/458 Bosmere RD, which tallies with the age you give.

You say John was born c1791 - I cannot see a marriage of a John GREEN to a Margaret ?  listed on the Suffolk marriage Index between 1813-1837.  Do you have the couple of the CRs 1841-1851  what are their ages occupations etc?

Thank you for your help,
John Green was a Tailor, whom i beleive had his premises in the high street in Needham Market, which is where he is listed in both the 1841 and 1851 census, and his age ties in on both of those census wih a birth year of 1791. Would be really nice to know where on high street!

There is obviously a link with Barking
John Green married Margretta Blomfield  8 Aug 1808 at Barking St Mary.  so he may have been born pre 1791.

thank you once again K,

Do i take it that there is no mention of Johns second wife sarah, whose surname
I beleive was Rose, but i cannot guarantee this.

My lineage is from John and Sarah via there son Walter John, who I know moved from the area to Scotland, then to Chesterfield where he died. His son William Green was my grandfather who I never knew.
I really appreciate the information you have provide so far, as i am very keen to find out any thing about john and his tailoring, and hopefully one day his parents too.

Kind regrads,  Derek

I started to look at Sarah & came up with one possibility

In 1881 a Sarah Green (widow) born Stowupland c1826 is living in High St, Needham Market as a domestic servant.  That fits with your Sarah fairly well as she would have been a widow by then if John died 1879.

FreeBMD lists the marriage of a John Green in the Mar Qtr of 1854 Bosmere RD Ref: 4a/673 in the same qtr a Sarah Tricker married.  Margaret/Margretta died 1853 so again this sort of fits with him remarrying.

Familysearch.org lists the bpt of Sarah Tricker 3 Aug 1828 Stowupland.  Parents William & Mary.

Where did you get the surname Rose from?  Where does John give as his place of birth in 1851/1861?  If the above marriage is correct you should be able to find him on the 1861 CR with Sarah does she give her place of birth as Stowupland in 1861?  Where is Sarah Tricker born c1828 Stowupland in 1851?  Perhaps someone can help with an answer.

A copy of the marriage certificate for 1854 would help resolve - http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

Thanks again K,

I honestly cannot fathom where I got the name of Rose from, and perhaps best to forget that. John is listed on the 1861 census with Sarah, and she gives her birthplace as Stowupland, which I beleive is not far from Neeham Market.
i suppose Green is a common name to be researching, especially as there seem to be so many children from the two marriages, and who knows how many siblings John had!
Thanks so much K
