Connected my iPod to computer to down load music. Was unable to connect to iTunes, I have a new laptop Microsoft 8.1 - having trouble. My iPod has frozen - can anyone help me through this problem?

Have a look at this, they suggest removing and reinstalling iTunes
https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/159257/windows+8.1+with+current+Itunes+software+wont+recognize+iPod
Sounds quite drastic though. If you Google there seems to be a lot about it, so it is obviously an issue and not just your computer
