« on: Saturday 22 November 14 04:09 GMT (UK) »
Hi Chatters,

I am after John/Jack Leonard living in Wee Waa, Cuttabri or Narrabri NSW, wife Elizabeth Josephine. Occ unknown. (At least till I get the death cert)

Thanks in advance

Cheers

NSW ER 1903 GWYDIR, polling at Wee Waa
James LEONARD of Wee Waa, teacher
NO OTHERS by that surname at that polling place.

None by that surname at Cuttabri or Narrabri or Narrabri West polling places on the 1903 NSW Electoral Rolls.  Noting that it was not yet compulsory to enrol, but to be eligible to enrol you needed to be a) a local, and b) a British Subject and c) aged 21 years and over.  1903 was first time females were eligible to enrol.

NSW State Records
 http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/state-archives/guides-and-finding-aids/short-guide-1/short-guide-1   (Short Guide 1 – Electoral Rolls)
http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/state-archives/guides-and-finding-aids/archives-in-brief/archives-in-brief-5 (Electoral Rolls)    …..noting that this brief lists the State Library of NSW family history Section as holding State Electoral rolls and that the Ward Library at UWS has a copy of the NSW ERs 1903-28.

Cheers,  JM

According to the A$$$.com -   NSW ER 1936 for Subdivision of Coonabarabran  (not that far from Narrabri) lists:
Ethel May Leonard (Home Duties), Jack Clarence Leonard (Labourer) and Leslie James Leonard (Labourer) all living at Back Creek, Ulamambri  (to the east of Coonabarabran)

Jack appears on later ER as well

Hi there,

According to the A$$$.com

Are you referring to the commercial website, Ancestry ?    Find My Past is another commercial website with some of the NSW Electoral Rolls.

Perhaps I am wrong, but I think you will find that subscription family history websites T&Cs basically consider 'look ups' to be a tad out of order.    I understand that there's family history websites that provide public libraries with 'library' editions of their holdings.

Cheers,  JM

Hi majm, JM, chuter and Stuart,
the nearest electoral office I can check historic rolls is 3 hours away, not an option at the moment. I do have full membership to A. but they only have 1930 or later for NSW. There are 2 or 3 couples with these names, hence the need for occupations. One of the couples possibly his son, also John/Jack. John is also Jack but there is another Jack too.
Rang the church and the Priest gave me a bit more information that isn't on the marriage certificate.
I have the death registrations from both Narrabri and Wee Waa Court Houses up to 1975 and they are not helping very much, parents names are given when provided by the informant. John's mother is also nee Smith. I have no modem at the moment and the dongle for my laptop is a tad expensive so research on the back burner till the replacement arrives.

Thank you very much everyone for your input, will revisit when back on the modem.

Cheers
