Chapel Bank, Talke 1881 Census
« on: Sunday 16 November 14 14:40 GMT (UK) »
In the 1881 census my GG Grandparents, James and Martha Nevitt are listed as living on Chapel Bank, Talke in the parish of Audley, North Staffordshire. I am local to the area but the name certainly doesn't exist now and I am unable to find it on any maps of the time. Does anyone know of this name and where it might relate to now? Thanks.

It appears on the census after Coal Pit Hill.
Coal Pit Hill shows on this map.  http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/STS/Audley/ParishMap.html

See Coalpit Hill on the map at http://maps.nls.uk/view/101599438#zoom=5&lat=4953&lon=7318&layers=BT There is a Methodist Chapel marked.
If you subscribe to Ancestry you can see the description of the 1881 census district at  http://www.rootschat.com/links/01e7b/

Thank you Rosie99, I'm quite new to this game and hadn't thought to look at what came before and after ... certainly a good idea.

Thank you too Stan, I hadn't found that map web site (but will now be adding it to my favourites) and there actually appears to be two Methodist Chapels marked quite close together, long since gone but I think where they were is now called Thomas Street and it is quite a steep bank so a good contender.

Thank you both again for your help,

Carol

Hi
My great grandparents were James and Martha Nevitt so I guess we're related! Who's baby are you??
My grandma was Elizabeth Nevitt.
