Wicklow baptisms/birth records
« on: Saturday 15 November 14 06:58 GMT (UK) »
I am  trying to locate a baptism/birth record to find out the first name of this child.  I have a George Napier Warren born Devon 1821, died 1863.      In 1848 he married Emily Hughes in Cork, and I have found a birth notice in the Freeman's Journal, Dublin, dated 25th Oct, 1849 "At Carnew, county Wicklow,  the lady of George Napier Warren, Esq., of a son".    George Napier Warren returned to England for a while, then came back to Cork, and made a nuisance of himself at the house of his brother-in-law looking for his "wife and child" (Cork Examiner Dec 1851).    I have tried a few sites looking for baptism records for Co. Wicklow but without success.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I locate any records ?
Many thanks.
Colleen

Hi Dathai
Thank you for the link to the Rootsweb thread.   I have had a look but the various records all relate to Trainer/Traynor families.    Some of the records date to the late 1840s/50s so they must be available somewhere; I will keep searching.
Regards
Colleen

The Wicklow Family History Centre is a genealogy research service established in 1987 by Wicklow County Council & FÁS. Since its foundation, our staff has computerized County Wicklow's Roman Catholic and Church of Ireland parish registers. Church records of Methodist, and Presbyterian circuits within the county have also been computerized. Our church records for the County of Wicklow date from the seventeenth century and stop at 1900.
Other records held by the Wicklow Family History Centre include land and tax records, i.e. Griffith's Valuation and the Tithe Applotment Books, as well as Ordnance Survey townland maps, parish maps, place histories, commercial directories and tombstone inscriptions. These sources enable us to give Wicklow descendants as complete a picture as possible of where and how their ancestors lived. Indeed, we have researched and compiled Wicklow family histories for enquirers from Ireland, Britain, the USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

Hi
Thank you for the info about Wicklow FHS.    I will send them an email today, to check on their archives and charges.      It is difficult to avoid paid research sometimes when you live on the other side of the world.
Thanks again.
