Walter Ernest Everrett -Just found some info!!!
« on: Thursday 13 November 14 13:26 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I wonder if anybody can help.
My Grandma's first husband was
Walter Ernest Ever(r)ett born Ipswich 1897 and he served in World War 1 in the 4th Suffolk Regiment. After the war he was admitted to the Star and Garter Home 1926 and was also treated at the Queen Alexandra Hospital , Cosham 1926.

He died in 1932 of Multiple Sclerosis.
In the information from the RSGH it was advised he was awarded the Military Medal.

Unfortunately despite having this information I cannot find him anywhere in the online records.

Help would be very much appreciated.

Terry

Here is a link to his Military Medal card on TNA ( listed incorrectly as W.F. Everrett 201059 Suffolk Regiment). The card should give you the date on which the notice appeared in the London Gazette.
I can't find a service or pension record , but that is not unusual when so many records were destroyed in WW2.I can see his Medal index card and 2 entries for him in the actual Rolls on Ancestry. Do you have access ? It's not always possible to find out the circumstances leading to the award of the MM but the Regimental Diaries may hold the key if you can discover the date from the MM card.

Oh dear , senior moment - forgot the link !

Many thanks to you both and I think we have answered my questions.

I found details of him and found he received 1914/15 star, Victory Medal and War Medal but I think it very unlikely he received The Military Medal. RSand Garter home advice says he did but I reckon they mean't he won a military medal in the war.

Have found his other military records found by tony.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Tony

He did receive the MM - https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/30431/supplement/13189. If you press PREVIOUS a few times you get the start of the section - https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/30431/supplement/13189

MMs are one of the few easy searches left on the LG after they 'improved' it. Just search for his surname and number.

The TNA link I gave above is for the Military Medal . The MM is not listed on the standard Medal card.

Ken and CB53

Many thanks for putting an idiot right. Much appreciated and I will look again.

I should have believed what people were telling me.

I will get onto the Regiment in the hope they will be able to help me further.

Many thanks
