Can anyone help me find John Sherlock/Phoebe Lyon with children George b 1856 Liverpool,John b 1858 Liverpool,Mathew b 1860 Boston.I cant find them going to America or coming back to Liverpool by 1862 when Agnes was born thank you.

Is his birthplace from the 1891 census?   Do you have him with his parents on an earlier census?

I can't see the family in 1871 and the only Matthew Sherlock in 1871 was b 1858 Liverpool and was  a an apprentice coal miner living in Bingley Yorkshire (see 1891 entry below) 

In 1881there is  an entry aged 21 b Liverpool and living in Liverpool but not with family

In 1891 a Matthew A Sherlock is living in Bingley Yorkshire shown as b Boston USA

According to the Births Registered in Boston USA Mathew Allen SHERLOCK born 1860, his father John SHERLOCK born Ireland, a Steward ( possibly on a ship?? ) and his mother Phoebe born Scotland.

So if John was working aboard ship then he may well not turn up on Passenger Lists.

Thank you for your help,i have Phoebe in Glasgow 1851 then in Boston with 3 of the children in 1860 with John, then in Liverpool 1862 when Agnes was born.I knew John was a ships steward on Georges marriage cert but what I cant find is when they went or when they came back.

They obviously went sometime between John's birth in 1858 and Matthews birth in 1860 and returned between 1860-1862

Do the precise dates really matter?  Given he was a ships steward you may struggle to find that type of info for the reasons above
