Hi,

Was it the family from Lewes (Southover)?

Ann was baptised on 8th April 1810 but her birth date is given as 29 Dec 1802.  That might be a mistranscription ...

Parents are Jesse and Ann Pumphrey who married at Lewes St. Michael on 26 Mar 1809.  That marriage makes it even more likely her birth is wrong.

Sorry I meant to say the mother's name is given as Ann Humphry and the Dad as Jesse Pumfry at the marriage.

I have the Pumfrey's of Southover, Lewes in my tree and they seem to alternate between Pumphrey / Humphrey and so I wonder if these two are related?

;D Well, I've just checked and Ann married James in Brighton which is very near Lewes.  Also there is no other suitable marriage for the Ann I have written about above on the Sussex Marriage Index.  I would imagine that's the correct Ann and those are definitely her parents.  I would say there is a very strong chance that her birth date should read 29 December 1809 rather than 1802 but without checking the original can't be 100% certain.

There's another Ann Pumfrey baptised in 1809 but in Willingdon which is much further from Brighton.

To confuse things further James Harman's wife Ann on the 1851 census gives her birth place as Brighton but I wouldn't necessarily worry about that discrepancy.
