Trove is wonderful but for The Sydney Morning Herald it only goes up to 1955.

This may be the right Thomas STEWART who died in 1974 (in Canberra).   There are some familiar family members but I guess they are fairly common names.

Thanks Ros, Shame it doesn’t give an age but son Thomas  would agree with Maud’s death notice. Guess the others are only the son’s family.

And the cutting came from Sydney Morning Herald 8 March 1974.   It sounds like he was just visiting Canberra when he died.

He would have been 91 in 1974, quite an age to travel 😀

Just been searching for a probate notice which may have given more info about him but I can't find one 

I'll photograph his probate - we'll soon find out.   

The names of his children are given in the same order in both Maud's death notice and his death notice which adds to the likelihood of it being him.

Thanks Ros, really helpful. I’ve just found a likely first wife from the electoral registers and then an amazingly detailed war record. Will explore that more now.

I was assuming the children in Maud’s death notice were her daughters’ children 🙄

There is a marriage in 1951 NSW BDM for this man to  a Barbara and there is a war service record for this man with NOK father Thomas STEWART in RAAF WW2 https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/ViewImage.aspx?B=4601827

I've only skimmed it 

His father's address at the time was in Strathfield.   Where was your Thomas STEWART living in the 1940's?

In Mosman, Marringah, NSW from at least 1933 (with likely first wife Elizabeth Jeffrey (nee Roddick)) until 1963 with Maud - all found on the electoral rolls.
