Skating rink in 1911?!
« on: Tuesday 21 October 14 00:44 BST (UK) »
Am I going mad thinking that one of the occupations in the attached 1911 census return says 'Skating Rink'? I've looked and there was indeed a skating rink at the time in the town but labourer seems a curious occupation to be carrying out there! Just want to check whether anybody agrees with me!

If anybody can decipher the word before 'laundry' in the other two occupations that would also be fantastic though laundress is a more normal occupation for my family!

Thanks in advance :)

Steam Laundry

Interested to know why a labourer would not be employed at an ice rink in 1911...we seem to be in an age of machinery, gadgets, fancy job titles...

Thanks, suppose I'm just a bit suspicious as I've literally never come across an 'interesting' occupation in my family!

It could be a roller skating rink, not an Ice Rink.
