I made a mistake with Peter, it should have been Philip which I corrected. There is a son Peter who may be the one you say died.

I wonder if Ellen Bickerstaffe Reid lived with Mr Le Goupillot? I can't see a marriage.

Thinking about it, Ellen already had Peter when she got with Cecil. That's the reason Cecil walked out, as Ellen already had a son and he didn't know till he turned up on door step one day. So Phillip could well be right. Could you pm me the names of the 4 children please, I know some of my dads siblings do have different fathers

Back to the other question are you saying that  this Cecil Albert Le Goupillot b.1901 definitely isn't the father of Cecil John Albert.

Just to recap your grandfather is Cecil John Albert Le Goupillot 1935-88 who married Ellen Bickerstaff.
His father is Cecil Albert Le Goupillot & this is all you know.

As Cecil John changed his name to Reid & as we can't find a birth for him under his father's name might indicate that his parents never married & he either wasn't registered or registered under his mother's name & assumed the name Goupillot.
It's not quite clear yet why he changed his name to Reid possibly it's his mother's maiden name or his mother married a Reid.
With regard to Cecil Albert Le Goupillot  there only seems to be one anywhere on the planet b.1901 married 1952 as shown on the previous pages
