John Munro blacksmith

Would anyone be able to help in finding any information on John Munro who married Mary Cameron (widow) at Kilmonivaig 21 July 1848 please. He was a journeyman blacksmith at Blarour farm but the family migrated to Melbourne in 1853. On John's death certificate it states he was born at Rosshire and his father was also called John and a farmer, mother's name was unknown. I would really appreciate any info on his family from Rosshire please.  Kaye

Can't find him in the 1841 but there are two Munro farmers in Alness in neighbouring farms - brothers? Cousins?  The John Munro doesn't have a son John at home but, at the age of 23 and a blacksmith, he is probably living elsewhere.

Note the Anne aged 60.  Bet that's the mother of John and Robert - certainly worth checking.

Only John on record as a son of a John being born in Alness 1815-1820.

Remember, there could be others born but not recorded.

In 1841 he could be the Blacksmith at Balfour.

Looking at the ages on that 1841 for John at Alness, I wondered if the Anne aged 25 could be a second wife or even a daughter?

One thing that might also help now further is the name of any daughters born after the 1851 census that J11 has posted earlier.

Mary is showing as maiden surname Cameron, likely the same as her first husband (often common in these and other parts of Scotland at this time). This is on the births of the first two sons with John Munro up to the 1851 census posted by J11 (these two sons' births also shown on https://familysearch.org/#start... and therefore on the Old Parish Registers here www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/).

You  have the family heading off to Melbourne in 1853. Any daughters' names born that might help now further to connect, if the new family of John and Mary used any form of Scottish naming pattern? See here for example www.halmyre.abel.co.uk/Family/naming.htm

Yes she was a Cameron, married to Donald Cameron.  Searching (sp) for Cameron births Kilmonivaig  mother Mary no surname Ewan, Donald, John and an Ann pop-up although the year of births are a bit off with what was reported in 1851.  Odd thing is their Bann.  It is well written and states Donald is occasionally at Batrick and Mary from Morven presently at Crief.

Also, residing next to them in the 1851 (original) is Ewan Cameron who I suspect is her brother-in-law and even mother-in-law from Mary’s first marriage.

Could be that he was a journeyman blacksmith, mason, etc. at the time.

To become a master, a journeyman has to submit a master work piece to a guild for evaluation and be admitted to the guild as a master. Sometimes, a journeyman is required to accomplish a three-year working trip, which may be called the journeyman years.
