Medal record help
« on: Tuesday 14 October 14 14:36 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm helping a friend with his family tree, on his grandmothers birth certificate (1917) it has his great grandfather (John Edward Peel) occupation as Coal Miner and also Private, Royal Scots. I searched ancestry's WW1 medal records and found a record for a Joseph E Peel of the Royal scots which I have attached, can anyone help with the writing that is inscribed on it? Also, is there any other way to confirm this is the correct person? I tried searching for service records, but no luck.

Thanks
Bryan

The medal entries were writen up in Roll books.
These entries were then copied to Medal Index Cards, one for each peron.

So all you need to know is:
Private, 2nd Battalion Royal Scots, Regimental Number: 21071

Entitled to Victory Medal, British War Medal, and 1915 Star (aka Pip, Squeak & Wilfred!)

He served in France, and entered that Theatre of War on 29th June 1915.
After the war he was placed on Class Z - Reserve. Just in case of further conflict!

The references against each medal simply refer to the relevant Roll Books.

Hi Ady,

So is there more info from that site than I already have? If so, where do I go?

Thanks
