PatB

I've found my ancestor on your burial report for Blackhill cemetery but I have not found his MI at Blackhill cemetery so can I assume that there wasn't a headstone at all or are the MI transcriptions for Blackhill cemetery ongoing?

This headstone is in Escomb Saxon church near Bishop Auckland, and is the earliest example of a smiley that I've come across.

If you give his details I'll check among the headstones I'm currently working on.

LadyofShallott

The burial you are researching is in the Old (South) graveyard and does not have a headstone. Your next step should probably be to look at the 1871 census using the information from the burial record to locate the appropriate entry.

I've had a look at the headstones I am currently transcribing - not yet complete or indexed - and came up with the two inscriptions shown on the attached PDF. Good luck with your researches.

                  PatB.

Hi PatB,

Thank you for searching through your current transcriptions for me and for supplying further information and the PDF report.

I greatly appreciate your help with my research.  :)

Hi,
this is my first post here,

I'm posting on behalf of my grandmother who is 85 and wishes to find the exact location of her grandmother Catherine (nee mcArdle) Conroy and her husband Matthew Conroy in Blackhill Cemetary. It is in her living memory that she recalls seeing the headstone to the left of the footpath as you enter the entrance nearest Queens rd, however after much searching, the headstone has disappeared now.

We are hoping that there is some kind of written record or even a visual of the headstone taken while it was still there so we can find the precise spot and be able to visit where they are.

Many thanks in advance,
Catherine and my Nanna Cath.
