Donna,

Hope you don't mind me being cheeky.
If you have access to the 1841/1851 census for Madeley, Shropshire would it be possible to look for a Benjamin Grocott/Growcott/Groucott/Groucutt born about 1810.  On later census birthplace is given as Madeley, Shropshire and Lady Bank, Shropshire.
Many thanks.

Gill

There is a Madeley in both counties. The Staffs one is  west of Newcastle under  Lyme, and the Shropshire one is part of Telford

The same family given in 1851. Daughter Elizabeth Lightfoot married John Allen (Lodger in 1851 census)

William BURTON married Sarah ALLEN, a sister of John Allen.
Marriage of William ~ Sarah Allen 1853 St Margret's, Wolstanton. Address given Knutton Heath

Dont know wether you know or not Sue but Knutton Heath is
the old name for Silverdale

Yes there are two.

The Shropshire one is now part of Telford, the Staffordshire one near Keele.

No connection between the two - they are miles apart.

Sue

I am researching some Lightfoots in Madeley.

The earliest are 2 brothers

Thomas Lightfoot 1825-1907 1st married Elizabeth Cooper then a Caroline. Lived most of his life out in Onneley

William Lightfoot b 1830 m Mary Timmis, lived out life in Madeley although was in Onneley in at least 1851 census.

Any connection?

John

Donna,
Thanks very much. This is very good of you. If you can, could you look for the following on the 1841 census?

William BURTON, (Parents unknown)born @ 1833 +/- 2 years Madeley, Shropshire?? The earliest sighting I have of him is on the Staffordshire, Wolstanton, 1851 census.
The 1851 transcription is:

1851 Wolstanton
Joseph Lightfoot Head 50 b Madeley, Staff
Mary  Wife 45 b Wydenbury, Cheshire
Elizabeth Dau 10? b Madeley, Staff
Andrew Son 10 ?? b Wolstanton
Philip Son 4 b Wolstanton
William Allen 23 Unm Lodger b Whitchurch, Cheshire
John Allen 22 Unm Lodger b Whitchurch, Cheshire
William Burton 18 Lodger b Wolstanton, Staff

Lightfoot & Allen play a key role in my family tree, so if you see them also, could you please give me the details?

Many thanks for your time.
Regards Sue
