Hi and welcome to Rootschat
Can you give any details of his birthyear & birthplace as the 1881 has a couple of entries for Partick?
Was he married in 1881 - what was his wife/childrens names?
Do you know his occupation?

Hi
Sorry, I only have his name. I think he was the tenant so he must have been an adult. Any info about any of them would be great

Hi
None of the entries are at the address you give as people moved around a lot in those days.
What document did you get his name and address from and what date is on that document

Hi
Got it from the 1875 rates records. He was listed as tenant. there may have been a Jane Gillan or a Margaret Gillan or Brown living there too. But this only a guess

He had probably moved by 1881. Is he an ancestor? Are you descended from one of his children as we can use that info to try and find the right entry.

Yes - as mentioned in my first reply but none are at the address you gave so we have no way of knowing which is the right John Gillan.
We also have to allow for mis-transcriptions of his surname so need more info to narrow it down
If you can supply any further info to help narrow it down I will look again. Do you know for certain that he was still in Partick in 1881 and not another part of Scotland?

Hi
A margaret brown married in nov 1881 in Partick. On the wedding certificate she gave her address as 15 Grace street and her parents as John Brown and Jane Gillan. I think Jane was related to the said John Gillan.
