many many thanks for all the help,  i cannot fathom how i have been searching for quite a while and never got anything other than the 1911 census & the will extract     all we have to find now is the marrage,  the family believe that marjories father was named john but i cannot find a death of a john riddell in the manchester area  he must have died between 1907 and 1911, based on being marjories father and louie saying on the census that she is a widow,  she also states that her married state was 5 years but is that how long she was married from the census date or how long she was married overall

again many thanks for the help i now can progress starting with the birth cert

thanks to everyone
chris

As Marjorie is registered as Astbury with mother's name of Astbury, it looks as though she could be illegitimate, although her father may have had the surname Riddell as she and her mother used the surname.
You could send for her birth certificate which may give more information.

yep we had considered that   but she says 5 years completed marrage on the census so i will keep looking and will now look up her birth cert

so the marrage could be 5 years before the birth thus i will look from 1903

many thanks
chris

I immediately thought that she must be illegitimate with the mothers surname being the same as hers.
It was easy enough to fib on the census, especially if she was in an area where no one knew them.

There is also this entry

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/X9RJ-23K

She is Louis Ashbury on another site.

The name could be just badly written.

She would be about 10 years too old, but could have lied about her age,

This looks like the same person on 1891 census

Piece    2823, Folio number 29 and page 1.

There doesn't seem to be a definite match for birth reg.

There is a Louisa Dorcas but she is also on 1891 census with widowed mother Dorcas.

There is a Lizzie Lee in 1870 - could she be the one and preferred to call herself Louie.

Can't be Lizzie Lee Astbury, she married in 1897 in Wolverhampton district to either Thomas Ayress or Thomas Clayton.

i think louie has told porky pies on the census    there is no record of any marrage in england or scotland   so she probebly was'nt a widow either    i will have to get the birth cert

thanks
