Hi there 'knows a lot'! I am attempting to trace my family tree and have so many questions regarding Ellen Peters, William Orme, Ada Ann Davis, William Davis etc.

I am a direct descendant of Ellen Peters and William Orme. And if my tree is correct -
Ellen Peters (mixed aboriginal) and William Orme (convict) had a daughter Martha Orme (my 4x great grandmother).
Martha married William Davis (also partially aboriginal) they had a daughter Ada Ann Davis (my 3x great grandmother).
Ada married James Goodwin and had a daughter called Ruby Goodwin (my great great grandmother).
Ruby married George Woods and had a son Arthur Woods (my great grandfather).
Arthur Woods married Nellie Faulks and had my grandmother.

Please, please message me!! I would really like to know more details.

Hello,

A relative of mine only got so far with this research, and according to their findings, mentions William George Davis as an Aboriginal, and Martha Orme as half Aboriginal. Does anyone have any further lineage or information regarding this, and of course, who their parents were?

Below is my family history, so far.

My Great Grandmother was Martha Maude Ethel Rogers. ("Maude" as she preferred) born 31/12/1895 in Nowra.
Her mother, my G.G grandmother was Ada Ann Rogers - nee Davis, born30/10/1869 in Goulburn.
Her mother, my G.G.G grandmother was Martha Davis - nee Orme, born 18/10/1850 at Jaqua Creek, Bungonia N.S.W, who was married to William George Davis in the school house on the 1/2/1869 at Willaroo N.S.W.

Any relatives on here?

Hello there. I've just stumbled across this.

I am also linked to William Davis of Willeroo Station. In particular he and Martha's daughter Ada.

Would love to find out more from you.

I have read all of these threads with so much interest, Thankyou. I am also researching my ancestry and believe this is part of it. My grandmother was Emily Ellen Heiler, nee Wade. My Great Grandmother was Frances Wade, nee Orme. I believe she may be the sister of Martha. Frances' husband, George Wade, was the manager of 'Willeroo' for 44 yrs from my research. My father spoke of the Aboriginal connection, but did not elaborate much.
Frances' mother was Ellen Peters, born in the Hawksbury River region. I found her father to be possibly a William Peters. That is where my research has been halted as I cannot find anything else on her.
Has anyone discovered any more about Ellen?
Thanking you in advance for any help.

To further my genealogical research, I joined Ancestry and took a DNA test. This connected me with numerous relatives who had also tested, allowing me to analyze their genetic percentages. I found that descendants of William George and Martha, as well as descendants of Martha's siblings and other related lines, had participated in DNA testing.

Among my genetic matches, I've identified multiple third and fourth cousins with 7% and smaller percentages of Indigenous or Torres Strait Islander DNA. However, it remains unclear whether these Indigenous connections originate from Martha, William, or elsewhere within their broader family.

My aunt, a great-great-granddaughter of William and Martha, has ordered a DNA test. I will share her results when they become available. It appears that younger generations have been more active in DNA testing than those closer in direct descent to William and Martha. This underscores the importance of encouraging parents and grandparents to test, as their results may reveal higher percentages of Indigenous DNA and provide more precise information about where this dna has been inherited.

Given the low frequency of Indigenous DNA among tested descendants, I think that perhaps only William, and not Martha, may have been of Aboriginal descent as "native born" meant born in Australia and not aboriginal.

To further your research and connect with potential relatives, I strongly encourage you to consider DNA testing. Please be aware that these tests can reveal unexpected family connections, as I discovered a half-sister through mine. Although my own results didn't show Indigenous DNA, this could be due to the natural variation in genetic inheritance, a factor that affects even full siblings. Even if you don't have an Ancestry account, you can still have your DNA tested as its a valuable tool for filling in genealogical gaps.

*Note: I do not work for Ancestry or any dna testing companies*  :P
