Burial
« on: Sunday 28 September 14 19:07 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this but i figure it's worth a shot, my father grew up in Nuneaton however when he was about 10 he moved away with his parents. He hasn't been back since and at the end of October I'm taking him back for the first time in nearly 40 years, He always tells me about his Nana Gilliver who he used to spend many Saturdays with as a child but she passed away. I know if there is a grave or headstone he would love to pay his respects, he has no idea where she is buried and i would like to surprise him by taking him to see her resting place.

The problem is she died in 1979 so quite late and i don't know if the records are available that late unless going to the Archives.

Her name was Hilda May Gilliver 1897 - Sept 1979.

I hope someone can help.
Many thanks in anticipation

Jason

Hi Jason

There are a number of cemeteries managed by Nuneaton Council and a crematorium managed by Dignity

http://www.nuneatonandbedworth.gov.uk/info/200424/cemeteries/147/cemetery_information

http://www.dignityfunerals.co.uk/crematoria/index.asp?pageid=20&fd=561

In the first instance, contact them to see if they can search for her referring to a map for the one closest to home then moving out.

They may ask for more information such as her actual date of death and/or last known address and, if she is in their records, they can tell you whether a headstone exists., If she was cremated they may not be able to tell you where her ashes went other than they were collected by the funeral director on behalf of the family or scattered in a Garden of Remembrance.

Let us know how you get on.

Dawn

Hi Jason,
There is a monumental inscription recorded at St Nicholas Church Nuneaton for an E Gilliver, the records for these are kept at Warwick Records Office.
I may be going there next week and will have a look to see who it was.
There is a burial in Hastings for a Hilda Frances L Gilliver in Sept 1970, birth 1898, is this any relation.
Warwick records office covers the Nuneaton area, if I get time I will have a look for any Gilliver residents there.

Regards
Rob

Perhaps the death was announced in the local newspaper, naming the cemetery or local funeral directors. Newspapers usually on microfiche can be viewed at the local Archives.
Good luck
