I don't understand why I have been alerted to a reply on my thread about one of my ancestors that dates back five years.

You have been alerted because someone has added their post to it which is nothing to do with your original post apart from mentioning The Royal Albert.

You can always contact the mods and ask them to separate the new posting from your original one.

Gibby -- everyone who was involved with the original thread will receive every message received on that thread.
Someone has added a new query concerning that establishment - and probably entered the name of the Royal Albert into Google. Your original post would have been included in the Google results maybe - or they have just searched on RootsChat for that name.
When an original post has been completed -- as yours was -- the original poster can indicate that the query is completed at that time - and it will be removed from 'open' queries.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

In nearby Scotforth Cemetery I once noticed a headstone for a long-term female resident of the Royal Albert, while one former male inmate joined the British Army, and died in Natal in 1900, during the Boer War.
