Royal Albert Institution in Lancaster

I have discovered that Luther Henry Tatham, a grandson of my 5x great grandparents was a patient at the Royal Albert Institution in Lancaster at the time of the 1911 census.

I have found out that the institution cared for 'idiots' and 'imbeciles' - people with severe intellectual impairment.

I would like to find out when he was admitted there and what was wrong with him.  He died in 1920 aged 32 and I suspect that he was still there then.

There are some records for the Royal Albert at Lancaster held by Lancashire Archives (Preston).

The Patient Records Case Books have reference number HRRA/55.

You maybe need to contact them to see if your ancestor's records are there --- but bear in mind that a 100 year rule may apply if he was still in there when he died. (You would know his death location if you obtain the death certificate).

I contacted Lancashire Archives a few days ago and they were able to confirm that they have the records that I am interested in.

Yesterday I sent off the form they sent me plus payment so I should have a copy of his records in a few days.

I am not able to travel to the archives myself so I opted to pay for a copy of his file and have it sent to my address.

Can you tell me if  there is a Graveyard at The Royal Albert Lancaster?

I would doubt it but I am sure someone will know.  Who are you looking for and when

There wasn't a graveyard for the Royal Albert. Inmates who died would be buried locally or released to their families (in the early days they accepted inmates from across the north of England).
