Crossett in Scotland

Hello,
The thinnest of threads leads me to believe Crossetts were in Scotland in the 17th century. Can anyone confirm that or sever the thread, please?

Hi Deacon,

I had a look through the BVR CD's and came up with the following. They all seem to be variations on your spelling but I know from reading through OPRs that the exact spelling of surnames can vary enormously.

Those are most helpful data, Anne. The name has a number of different spellings over the years and is alleged to have started with du Crozat in France, so Crosat and Croset are close. Thanks.

My great-grandfather was John Crossett, son of Joseph Crossett and Sarah Sloan.  He had a brother named George. John and his father were living at on North Square, Gartsherrie, Coatbridge, Lanarkshire at the end of the 19th Century.  John Crossett married Louis Jean Hamilton of Motherwell in 1908 and then took his family to Canada.  I do not have information further back than that.  I do not know when this family would have arrived in Scotland from Antrim.  I hope to trace them back to Anthony Du Crozat.
