Samson Spooner - farmer - died Essex 1953
« on: Sunday 21 September 14 20:14 BST (UK) »
Does any one have any information on Samson Spooner who was born in Tuddenham and had a grocery shop in Littleport. At some time after 1916, he moved to Essex where he appears on several Kellys directorys as a farmer. He died there in 1953 aged 87.
He was my husbands great grandfather and his latter life was a bit of a mystery to the family he left behind in Littleport.
Any info gratefully received!

Hello! thanks for the information. Majorie Leaper doesn't mean anything to me - I wondered if he had any more children with a new wife or partner? The family story was that he ran off with the shop girl in Littleport but nobody seems to know anything about him after that or his life in Essex! I was hoping because his death was fairly recent - in ancestor hunting terms - someone might remember him.
Spooners all over the place aren't they!
Thanks for your help.
Debby

Spooners all over the place aren't they!

They sure are.

My Spooner ancestors were all East End of London.

Thomas King Spooner is my favourite. In 1901 his occupation is given as Scavenger. By 1911 he was definitely moving up in the world, though, having become a Public Convenience Attendant. He was my great great grandfather.
All identified names up to and including my great x5 grandparents: Abbot Andrews Baker Blenc(h)ow Brothers Burrows Chambers Clifton Cornwell Escott Fisher Foster Frost Giddins Groom Hardwick Harris Hart Hayho(e) Herman Holcomb(e) Holmes Hurley King-Spooner Martindale Mason Mitchell Murphy Neves Oakey Packman Palmer Peabody Pearce Pettit(t) Piper Pottenger Pound Purkis Rackliff(e) Richardson Scotford Sherman Sinden Snear Southam Spooner Stephenson Varing Weatherley Webb Whitney Wiles Wright

Samson was one of my great grandfather Frank’s many brothers. My mother would have been a little girl when he died; I could ask her if she remembers anything about him.
