Cant read street on death certificate
« on: Saturday 20 September 14 15:45 BST (UK) »
I have just purchased the death certificate for my 2x gr granddad. His name is George Chipperfield and died in 1894.The death certificate says he died at 54 Hotton Road, reg district Greenwich sub district Deptford. I think it says Hotton Road but it is not very clear, could be Notton or Hutton. Can anyone tell me if the road name is correct as I cant find it anywhere. Also would he have been buried in a church nearby, in all probability a paupers funeral.
Thank you
Ann

Ann, if you post an image of the relevant road name we can take a look at it for you and offer an opinion.  :)

Do you have George in the 1891 census? Maybe he was living in the same place ...

Hi Ann,

Firstly, you are not stupid at all. It is tricky to post photographs (I think so anyway  ;))

I'm not the best person to advise about this but these instructions might help you:

If you have problems, just ask and I'm sure someone here will be able to help you.  :)

Do you have George in the 1891 census? I've looked for him and there are several George  Chipperfields so just wondering which one is yours.

I have tried to take a photo of the writing but all blurry. I have however compared the first letter with others on the certificate and am sure now that it is Wotton Road, St Paul, Deptford. Now my question is does this mean a local church and if so where do I find their burial records. I am unable to travel to Deptford so I hope there is something online

If the writing is blurry, then it's out of focus?!

Do you have children or grandchildren that could do a scan for you?
They can then use the Windows Snipping Tool, to just show the address portion.

At that date it would not be a burial in a church graveyard, it would probabkly be in Brockley & Ladywell Cemetery, originally known as Deptford Cemetery, or perhaps Nunhead Cemetery.
