Elizabeth Tucker 1871

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for Elizabeth Tucker living in London in 1871 I think.  Elizabeth was from Wiltshire according to her death certificate here in NZ. Elizabeth married in London in the Parish Church of Camden Town to Henry Able Flatman.  They emigrated to NZ in 1873.

The wedding cert shows a Hannah Tucker as one of the witnesses ( Mother or sister?) and we have a small bible sent here to her from her Uncle Charles Tucker in London dated 1885. 

Elizabeth was born about 1855

I am sorry it is so little to go but at the moment that is all I have.

Just looking at the marriage cert for more clues

Marriage was 13 May 1873

Henry Flatman 22Bachelor , publican, of 14 Randolph Street, father George Flatman publican
Elizabeth Tucker 21 spinster of 14 Randolph Street, father Henry Tucker bricklayer

A possible for 1871

Elizabeth Tucker age19 bn Westbury Wiltshire, servant in h/h of an Edward Pitman and family in Richmond Rd Paddington

Looks like the witness may have been her mum, unless there is a sister not at home in 1861

I think I have followed the wrong Elizabeth Tucker, because 1851 reveals that the girl I have followed had a Dad called William, a cordwainer - not Henry a Bricklayer!

Here is the 1851, just so we can rule it out and not go over it again

There are certainly plenty of Tuckers in Wiltshire!

Thanks for trying lizbd. It was very little to go on.

I have the Bible bit wrong.  It was sent to her daughter here in 1885 NOT Elizabeth so Charles Tucker must have been her brother, still alive in London then.  Family history has it that Charles was a missionary and went to India ( whether this was before 1885 or after I have no idea.)

This one looks possible
Father is Henry (though not a bricklayer) and siblings include a Charles, plus a Hannah there too, presumably related in some way!

They are still there in 1871, he is still an ag lab. Older children all left home, Hannah still there, now described as granddaughter.

I take it that is the 1861 in Claypond, Wiltshire.  If it is the right family then the Hannah Tucker witness  at the wedding could have been the Grandaughter, she would have been about 17. (would that have been old enough to be a witness I wonder?)

The occupation of bricklayer only appears once in the records we have here and that was on the wedding cert.

Hi,

In 1871, Henry Flatman (shown on Ancestry as Harry) was a Potman at a Public House - The Jolly Gardeners, Coburg Street, London (Landlord was a Joseph Newport). Henry is shown as age 18 from Norfolk.

In 1861 aged 8, he seems to be with his uncle Henry Flatman - shown as Henery aged 40 - An Innkeeper at The Kings Head, Alburgh, Norfolk. Henry's mother Hannah is also there aged 71 and his sister Harriet age 35.
