mellanby family of durham
« on: Friday 12 September 14 21:33 BST (UK) »
I am a descendant of Frances Mellanby who married William Winter and lived in Redcar. I have a photograph of Frances. She was born in Middleton one row in Durham in 1850. She was the daughter of Phillip Mellanby and Anne Chambers  Phillips mother and father were John Mellanby and Frances Heaton . Johns father was also John and his wife was Elizabeth Farrell. Johns father was Thomas and his mother was Margaret Shaw. That is as far as I've got the Mellanby line at the moment but if anyone has more info I would love to hear from you.

Hello, and welcome to RootsChat!

If you haven't already done so, a good way to make surname connections with other members is to enter your surname interests in the Surname Interests Table (SIT), and to check there whether others are researching these names.

This can be found at http://surname.rootschat.com/ , there is a link to it under "Your Tools" at the bottom of each Rootschat page.

The more people who enter their surnames, the more chance there will be of making a connection!

In the meantime, I will move this thread to the Durham board in the hope of attracting local attention. ;)

Hello,
I was interested in your post as I have been researching the Mellanbys for some time. I have written up some of this in https://sites.google.com/site/mellanbyarchives. If you would like to look at this you will see some of your own branch under the heading "Birkby". Unfortunately I seem to have overlooked your own ancestry entirely! I will look into this as I have clearly missed something. The names Thomas Mellanby and Margaret Shaw also ring a bell which I will have a look at.

John Mellanby

Mellanby One-name Study. Also family history of Walker, Braithwaite, Barrett, Weidner, Howard.
