William Allberry 1819
« on: Monday 08 September 14 20:33 BST (UK) »
I have a direct ancestor, William Allberry, born in Portsea in 1818/9.  I know from his wedding cert that his father's first name was Edward.   I'd be most grateful if anyone with access to the Portsea records could find any further family connection....
Any help appreciated.

Hi Lesley,

What occupation was recorded for William's father (Edward) on his marriage cert?

On the 1841 there is a William Allberry (edge tool maker) living in Chichester. Living nextdoor is an Edmund (edge tool maker) and Sarah Allberry.

JJ

Many thanks Keyboard86 and JJen.   You're both absolutely correct.   The edge tool maker in Chichester in the 1841 census is the same William Allberry.   On his marriage certificate to Ann Leggatt his father's name is given as Edward (deceased).  However, when previously researching this I could only find William Allberry and Jane Spragg as parents of a William Allberry born in Portsea  in the correct year (and a brother James).  For a long time I thought there must just be a mistake on the marriage cert (I know this happens).  IGI (as was) gave William and Jane as his parents, but this William is very much alive in 1842 (the year of the marriage).
I live too far away to come and check the records myself (although this is what I'd love to do).  I wondered if someone would check on my behalf?
Lesley  :-)

Hi Keyboard86.  Please can I take you up on your offer to find details of William Albury son of Edward and Betty. (7 Nov 1814)?  Selborne seems some distance away and there's a 4 yr difference in the date of birth - however, I've no other leads!!!

Many thanks,
Lesley :-)

Back in Sept 2014 I asked if anyone could find parents for William Allberry son of Edward, supposedly born Portsea Island in 1819.  A couple of people were able to make suggestions, the most notable being Edward and Betty, (Wm born 7 Nov 1814 in Selbourne).  It maybe that he has a brother (or a cousin called Edmund who married a Sarah).

Many thanks, Lesley
