Another Uniform question

Hi all
Can anyone tell me if this is a WWI or WWII Uniform.  I have been led to believe this is a photo of my husbands Grandfather Albert Joseph Bennett born 1908, so not old enough to fight in WWI, but I just feel this photo looks too old to be WWII.

It looks post WWI to me. The Service Cap suggests the 1920's which would fit with the age of your presumed subject.  I can't get a clear resolution on the badges but they look the right shape for 11th Hussars.

Good afternoon,

Yes, 11th hussars, early to mid 1920s when still a mounted cavalry regt. They were one of the first two cavalry regt's to be mechanised in 1928, although it took several years to complete. The dress would have changed to that more suited to working in vehicles.

I'm not sure when they reverted to wearing their crimson trousers. But this has to be before then as well as I feel he would have worn them if possible for a photo.

Hi my gut feeling is that its post WWI, he is wearing his lanyard on his right shoulder, there has and always will be some debate regarding the date the lanyard changed onto the  right hand shoulder but I'm sure it was after the war, could be wrong someone will correct me if I am.

Hi Michaela, I'm afraid that would be the case, however you could apply to the MOD for them. It costs about £30 with a bit of a wait but it's worth it in the long run.

Was the leather bandoleer still retained by the Hussars after the war or is he posing with one?

Good evening,

All cavalry regt's retained the bandolier until mechanisation. That's not to say they wore it on a daily basis. Probably only for mounted drill in full marching order.
