Birth registered twice
« on: Friday 29 August 14 22:35 BST (UK) »
Hello :)

I've found that my birth has been registered twice, both entries have the same details but one is in 1975 (my year of birth) and the other in 1977.

Would anyone know why this is please?

Many thanks

When did your parents marry, could it be something to do with that?

When did your parents marry, could it be something to do with that?

They married in 1976. My Dad wasn't around for my birth and for a while after so could that be why then?  Could i have still had his surname if he wasn't at the registry office

Thanks for your help :)

Is it two separate certs, or two separate index entries for one cert that has been modified? I've found before two entries in the index for the same birth, and it turned out it was because something on the cert had been altered, usually surname changed to father's surname after marriage of parents, or date of birth changed in accordance with baptism register at pension age. It should be very obvious on the cert what has been altered.

This might help

"Changing a child's surname from the mother's surname to the father's surname (parents married since birth)
If the natural parents have married each other since the birth was registered, the birth can be re-registered to show the child as a child of the parents' marriage.  Upon re-registration, the child and mother's surname can be changed to that of the father and a new birth certificate can be purchased."
