Help reading Marriage Cert.
« on: Thursday 21 August 14 00:12 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm looking to have this transcribed, I know what some of it says but other parts I'm really struggling to read.
I know they were married on the 29th December 1904, and that he was an Electrical Engineer. But I can't read much else.

Thanks for any help you can give.

OK, here's what I get from it, I stand to be corrected:

1904, 29th December, 27 High Street, Lanark. After publication (banns) according to the norms of the United Free Church.

Signed. Robt Steel, Electrical Engineer, Bachelor, Age 26

Signed. Grace Stevenson Adam, Certificated Teacher, Spinster, Age 27

His usual residence the name or number is unclear but I think is Portland Place, Lanark, hers is the place of marriage, 27 High Street, Lanark.

Parents:

William Richard? Steel, Cashier/Auctioneer - Isabella Allen Steel, m.s. (maiden surname) Luck?

Alexander Adam, Joiner, Deceased - Grace Adam, m.s. Stevenson

Minister's name is unclear. Witnesses: William Steel and Jane Adam.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, I already knew who he was and his parents. I wasn't sure about her job so thanks!

Whoever provided this web page agrees:

"Grace Adam was married at home in the High Street, on 29 December 1904 to Robert Steel of Hawthorndene, Portland Place, the son of the man who had been central to her historic day."
