One of two deaths is the right one - BRAIN
« on: Tuesday 19 August 14 16:43 BST (UK) »
Hi
I am new to this message board 'thing' but would appreciate any help anyone can offer.  I am looking for the death of Susanna Brain.  I've looked on ancestry and it is uncommon enough a combination to narrow it down to two - circa Jun 1865 in Westbury on Severn (more likely) or circa Dec 1866 in Clifton.  If anyone can get details on either of these that would help me enormously to narrow down the search.  Thank you
Darren Woodward

Wow that was quick!  I don't think it can be the 42 year old.  I have her baptism in 1830, on the 51 census she says she is 21 but she says she is only 26 on the 61 census!  Are you able to access the death cert for either?  If one is right she was telling porkies either way!
Thank you  :)

The only way to access death certs is to order them.

Is she the 26 yr old "Susanah" Brain in Ashton Keynes (Cricklade registration district) in 1861? RG9/1274/27/19.

No, I don't know of the family but I see that the widowed James in 1871 (by now living in Moreton Valence, Glos - registration district Wheatenhurst) has with him a 5 yr old daughter Mary, b Moreton Valence. RG10/2625/36/5.

Possible birth reg for her then is as Mary A C Brain, Mar qtr 1866 Wheatenhurst.

If this is the right birth reg and Susannah gave birth to her then I'd think it may narrow down possible death dates for Susannah.

Was she Susannah LUGG who married James BRAIN, Sep qtr 1856 Chippenham?

GloucestershireBMD has more on the Mary A C Brain birth:

Mary Ann Caroline BRAIN, mother's maiden name LUGG, 1865.  (GRO reg as I said was Mar qtr 1866).

An online tree (usual caution required) has Mary's birthdate as 13 Dec 1865.

Did mum die giving birth to Mary perhaps- and if she was 26 in 1861 it wouldn't be too far out to be 29 on death 4 years later?

Is hubby loads younger then her,so she fibbed a bit about her age to him ;D
