Rosskeen Munros
« on: Wednesday 29 June 05 01:29 BST (UK) »
I have hit my brick wall with Donald Munro who married Catherine Dingwall in 1831 in Rosskeen. I do not know who his parents were as his marriage record is just a one line entry & I cannot find a death record. He appears in the Rosskeen 1851 census as aged 45, born Rosskeen but does not appear in 1861, so he was either dead or working away from home. Certainly he had died by the time his son Donald married in 1868.

I have one clue. In the 1851 census, one of his children is missing, so there is a possibility that she was with her grandparents or an aunt or uncle. I no longer have access to the 1851 census, so if you do have access could you please see if you can find Catherine Munro aged about 10, born in Rosskeen & shown as a granddaughter or a niece, I would be most grateful. With my luck she will be with her Dingwall grandparents!

Any suggestions appreciated

hi pal,

i have went round and round the igi's for this family, everything i found is submitted, so cannot be trusted.

i am drawn towards the name of isabel as the mother of donald, but in saying that there appears to be a good match with parents john and christian mckenzie.

very very difficult.

my opinion would be to post your finds on this thread, as it has now been highlighted again.

the 1841 census findings along with the 1851 findings.

do you have any certain dates for the children?

Hi Joe,

Sorry to have taken so long to reply but I have just returned from Scotland which  included the very successful Clan Munro Gathering.

I believe I have found Catherine staying with a school friend on the census night but so far have had no success with Donald born abt 1805 & married to Catherine Dingwall.

Regards,

Don
