Maskell Help

I have had a look at his attestation papers again for any clues, he still seems to be single as at about 1908, have had a real laugh as he seems to have been  a bit of a character

Have you any ideas as to where he might have lived , would he have been based around the Surrey area do you know, Electrol Regs are a good source of info

I know that one can call oneself whatever you want but it does seem a bit strange that up till, as far as we know, 1907 ish he was a Maskell

This should take you back a generation but still no further into finding out why Henry Charles changed his name

Just a update. I am asking my Mum for any of her father's War papers, hoping it may give some clues.
In the meantime, I have tried a couple of free family tree software programmes, so as to help me 'see some light' ? Not much success.As well as searching Electoral Rolls, seeing if I find him. Just thought I'd touch base with you.

It's a mystery, isn't it, you may never know why he used that name, perhaps there was a problem  along the way, a fall out with his family somewhere
Have you looked at wills for his parents to see if he is included

Did you follow this up?, I have never seen such papers but it would be interesting to see if there is a reason

If, as you mentioned a lot earlier he might have married an Indian woman, he may have returned home without her, she still alive and he decided to change his name and hide behind his new name showing he was a widower when perhaps he wasn't

George James Maskell died 1934 aged 73
Annie Eliza Maskell died 1939 aged 78
both registered Camberwell
these seem to fit in with dates od birth on previous census

The elect regs show them as living in Basing Road, other occupants at No 12 were  Lawes and Williams family, I did wonder if there son would be there under the Hudson surname, I suspect the death certs might well be registered by one of these persons in the household, Lawes being Jessie's married name

I am at a loss as to where to go from here
