Hello from California,
Can anyone tell me how to politely request a look-up in parish records?  As remarkable as this will sound, I was born in the US my husband was born in Australia and moved to California as an adult.  I have been working on both of our family histories and we each have direct ancestors from the County Armagh.  His were Joseph Black born Dec 8, 1825 son of Thomas Black and Margaret (Kingborough?) his birth is supposedly registered at Tartaraghan.  Elizabeth Ann Pendleton born July 1, 1835 daughter of John Pendleton, she was supposedly born at Derrykeevan.  Now for a few on my side, Henry Conley born about 1635, His son Henry Conley born about 1656, Henry Jrs wife Betsy Buxley(?) born about 1666.  My family was living in the American colonies by or before 1700 but their information from N. Ireland is not as well supported as my husbands whose family did not leave for Australia until 1852 via London of course then onto Australia aboard the Stebonheath.
Any suggestions for my research or any look ups offered by members is warmly appreciated.  Thank you.

Hi Scott,
I just got the full message for Joseph Black.  The Joseph Black that is my husbands 2nd great grandfather was born about December 08, 1825 in Cloncor, County Armaugh, N. Ireland he died November 28, 1914 in Creswick, Victoria, Australia.  He and his wife Elizabeth Ann Pendleton immigrated to Australia onboard the Stebonheath 1852/1853.  Their son Thomas Stebonheath Black was born onboard just outside Port Phillip Head.  We have a copies of Joseph's death certificate, Thomas' Baptimal record from Christ Church, Geelong and his marriage record to Elizabeth Homes.  I do not have a copy of Thomas' death certificate because he died in 1946 and for something so recent I have to wait until we are back in Australia so that my husband can show his proper identification to receive a copy.  Also, I have a print out of the Unassisted Immigration to Victoria-Index of Inward Passenger Lists for British and Foreign Born 1852-1923 on it is the entry for Black, Joseph age 26 Jan 1853 Ship Stebonheath into port B Fiche roll 026.  I hope to obtain a copy of the manifest with this information but have not done so yet.
We have tons more, please email me direct as I have been having a lot of trouble getting my messages here.  Thanks!  Moderator comment: email address removed in accordance with Rootschat policy

Hi,

I have information on the family of Elizabeth Pendleton.  Her father was not John but George Pentland.  My line descends from Thomas Pentland, Elizabeth's brother.

Also, quite a bit on the Black family as they established themselves in Australia.

Roxanna

Not sure about the original post but this site has details about parish records for South Armagh which might help:
