The Hintlesham Pound
« on: Sunday 03 August 14 18:07 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know where the Hintlesham pound was located in 1911 - I have some family members who are listed as living near the pound and would like to find what cottages they might be - Dave
Suffolk - especially the area surrounding Burstall
Kent - Hythe Folkestone area

Have you checked the "Enumerator's list" for possible reference points?.

If you have access to Find My Past, locate 1911 image of family you are interested in. Click on "Related Images" bottom right of screen. Click on "List" if displayed in Menu returned (not always guaranteed to be there!!).

The image returned should be a list of the premises adjoining your family - may help unless they are all marked "close to the pound" of course.

I understand A****y has a similar facility - but I am not familiar with that site.

Hi Dave

Have you tried Old Maps at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html

search for Hintlesham and look at the 1904 Pre-WW11 1:2500 map, the Pound is situated near the bottom left hand corner, still in the same place as it was in 1883.
