In answer to your question yes the Orchard family are/were travellers.

Hi. Saw your post. The orchards are a very old travelling people. I have camped with them. 50 years ago.in fact one of my son's  is camping with one of them now. So still travelling. No help. Perhaps. But you are on the right path.  Rob.g

There's a nice book The Life and Story of May ORCHARD written by Dorothy Orchard about her mother May (1935-1990).

It includes a photo of May Orchard, Caroline FRANKHAM and Florrie SMITH out calling.
