STEPHAN - Shelton, Staffordshire
« on: Sunday 27 July 14 09:18 BST (UK) »
Morning,

Can anyone do a look up for me?

From the census records I have, and a rough family tree published in Coalport China (M Messenger), I am led to believe that Peter Stephan was born 1796 in Shelton.

He also presumed to have two brothers born their too; William (1798/9) and Henry (1801).

I have found a marriage for Peter Stephan & Hannah Johnson (1801) which I understand to be their parents but want a little clarity if possible.

I've looked at the records now available on FindMyPast but can't find them!

Stephan was sometimes spelt Strephon...

If I am looking at the right Peter he marries Susanna Bradley in 1850, does that certificate name Peter as his father.

If the 1801 marriage is correct have you considered that the children may have been baptised as Johnson.

Hi on his marriage to Hannah he is a modeller. 1851/61/71 census perhaps his son Peter?  bn 1796 has the same occupation. His wife is Susannah nee Nickless.(Anc family post)
There is a Henry and a Peter in 1841 census ages rounded off.
Sorry I'm not of much help.

That's the one Rosie! Susannah was his second wife having married Sarah Shenton previously. And yes Peter is listed as Father. Problem is they liked the name Peter and I'm just wondering if there's another generation between them and the infamous Pierre/Peter Stephan as he would of been 56 when he had my ancestor Peter in 1796.

I didn't think to look at Johnson... may be worth a look!

Peter Jr (b1796) did have the same occupation - modeller. He was well known in the Coalport area for his work.

Thanks for your help, I have all the census/marriage info for Peter (1796), I am just now trying to trace back and get some clarity on his birth place/mothers name. His Dad is definitely Peter Stephan.

Sorry but I am 'down south'  and Tina is the other side of the world  :(  The records on FindMyPast are I think from what I have seen elsewhere still being loaded to the site.  You may have to be patient.  ;)

Thanks for letting me know Rosie. I started researching this branch 3years ago before i got engaged and now I'm married and have a little time to spare, I've become impatient haha. The ones I want are definitely not on FindMyPast yet :(  ... I be also emailed Staffordshire archives to see how much it would cost them to look them up for me.

Have a nice break x
