Stanmore post WW2

Discussing family history with a friend set off a memory (or possibly a figment of my imagination).

My mother's sister and her family lived in Stanmore for a while after the War and I think they were living in a big hut with other families, the only privacy being a thick curtain pulled across.

So can anyone tell me if this was true or am I imagining it? The hut/huts were near Stanmore Station. What triggered the "memory" was remembering mum swapping sugar coupons with her sister for coupons she had less use for.

I think that the plot that you refer to was bounded by the Uxbridge Road and Brockley Hill, in about 1948 these buildings were refurbished, rebuilt and extended as necessary and occupied by various government departments. I think that the site is now occupied by the D.V.L.A.

? On Honeypot Lane (going from Stanmore to Kingsbury) just past the junction with Marsh Lane (then pub)
on the left hand side. Post ww2 was Gov Buildings now a new housing estate.

? The airfield (BentleyPriory?) on Uxbridge Road, lhs going from Stanmore to HarrowWeald.

Similar things happened all over.
Post-war, my wife and my neighbour both lived in ex-camp "accomodation" on the A40  Perivale (opp Hoover).

Many thanks for the replies. Seems it is definitely a memory.

Could be wrong, feel the huts would have been along the road to the right of the station as you face it with the road to the car park on the left.

Been years since I had anything to do with Stanmore.

RAF Stanmore? Although it IS rather a long way to the right of Stanmore Station.
MY husband grew up with the station and the old Bakerloo line at the end of his garden.

It's a housing estate now though.

Surely RAF Stanmore is to the right along the London Road past Merrion Avenue,past the shops and on the way to Brockhurst Corner?

DVLA were in the buildings on Honeypot Lane.

There were some at the top of Stanmore Hill (on the Common)
"Next" to (tree-wise not "road-wise") the Orthopaedic Hospital
One of the "defence" companies took it over (Marconi?)

RAF Stanmore Park was walk out of Stanmore Station, turn left along London Road, thru shops (Broadway) then on Church road then Uxbridge Road hand side.

"Brockhurst Corner"? Do you mean Brockley Hill / Canons Corner? Brockhurst Close?

"WW2" = Stanmore still had 2 (TWO) stations !
The "other" (terminus) one close to RAF Stanmore Park, and closed by the Beeching cuts.
In effect, the south of the (now) junction of Old Church Lane and Gordon Avenue (Septem Way).
