Ah yes that's a point- the old Stanmore Station at the top of Gordon Avenue which was linked to Belmont and Wealdstone (known as the Belmont Rattler)

It's a house now.

Now this may seem silly but.

Every Wednesday on BBC Radio London after 12pm, Robert Elms does a slot called Notes and Queries.  All about London.

Why not call one Wednesday and ask your question.  They call you back.  Or you can email him.

Hi Ray and Carol,

Perhaps what I was thinking of wasn't RAF Stanmore.

What I had in mind was what was on the road opposite the road that goes to Edgware. I had thought that the buildings that used to be there were connected to the RAF.

As I said, it is a long time since I had anything to do with that area and I cant remember the names of the roads, although Honeypot Lane definitely is one I remember.

The road to Edgware is called Stonegrove,it runs from the roundabout at the bottom of Stanmore Hill.
There used to be a pub there which was turned into a McDonalds.

Use www.streetmap.co.uk to get your bearings today.

I used to walk down Honeypot Lane to get to school (Downer in Queensbury)

Hi Carol. At one time I would have known the road was Stonegrove but have spent too many years in Bedfordshire and the memory is fading!

I went to Spur Road school, believe we were the first intake and that it was opened by the Queen Mum. Hope I've got that right!

I'm even further north than you,up the A6 in East Northants- been here since 1973.
But my mother in law was still in Westbere Drive till 1997 and sister in law there till 2012.

Plummiegirl, sorry only just noticed your post. Unfortunately I am not able to act on your suggestion as Wednesday is frantic for me. Good idea though.

Carol, we North Londoners certainly seem to have spread about. Have been here since 1969 and only go back to visit parents' and grandparents' graves in Hendon. Still think of myself as a North Londoner though.
