Loaning Burn
« on: Tuesday 08 July 14 12:20 BST (UK) »
An article in the Newcastle Journal states: Records show that at Loaning Burn in the early 17th Century, Jenkin, John, George and Gabriell Anderson farmed just 34 acres between them. And 16 boundary stones on the range, bearing the initials of the respective owners, indicate how the land was divided.  The remains show that people have tried to eke a living from the land.
As early as 1633 there was a colliery at Loaning Burn.
Any information on the Anderson or Loaning Burn would be greatly appreciated.

There is a Loaning Burn in the parish of Elsdon, and small-scale coal mining was certainly carried on in and around Elsdon.
