I agree that tracing Murphy ancestors is one Murphy at a time but it is a challenge.
If anyone is tracing the John Abbott Murphy/Edward Walker Murphy line from Simcoe County (Midland, Ontario), I would love to collaborate.

I'm looking to find out where Mary Murphy (married to John McCarren) lived in, in Ireland around the 1830s or early 40s. They had a daughter that immigrated to the US in the 1860s.

You would do best by looking for any US records - some of which may mention her place of birth?

Otherwise it's an impossible task! :-\

Thank you for the tips. From what I can tell their daughter Elizabeth came over by herself, which seems odd figuring she was unchaperoned, or maybe she was and the person's last name is different. She was about 20. I found out her parents name by her death certificate. Only Ireland was said as place of birth.
