So he is Samuel (oliver) Taylor....the cap badge isnt Rifle Brigade and the Manchester Regiment is distinct.
He has two ribbons on his tunic that look like King and Queens South Africa Medals awarded for Boer War Service 1899-1902
medal index cards could have him as S Taylor,Samuel O Taylor, Samuel Taylor,Oliver Taylor if he used Oliver it really is difficult without a service number

Try Find My past pre 1915 records see if there are any hits?

I've found a Samuel Oliver Taylor -  Medal card - Regiment 230/201106 Private Rifle Brigade but have not been able to find any service records.
However, this does not fit with your information. And, the daughter of my great aunt has only this photo but nothing more.

You were definitely on the right track. I have managed to contact the daughter of my great aunt (Samuel's sister) and she remembers her mother saying that Samuel had fought in the Boer War. Unfortunately, she has no other memories of all this.

If you can come up with any other information, Ady, that would be wonderful. Already, thank you for all you have done.

Yes, Frank!

Samuel served with the Manchester Regiment (battalion unknown). I've been looking at Boer War sites all morning but have not advanced for the moment. Possibly never will get any further than this. But, am immensely happy with the results already achieved.
