Hunter of Kirkcaldy; Swan of Dunfermline
« on: Sunday 29 June 14 20:53 BST (UK) »
I am interested in learning more about two families from the Fife district.

James Swan, b abt 184; married 12 Jul 1867 in Dunfermline to Norman Elizabeth Chalmers.  They had six children: John, twins Isabella Chalmers and Ann Melville; Janet, Norman Elizabeth, and James (all born between 1867 and 1874).  I believe his parents were George Swan and Margaret Wishart.

James Hunter died about 1944 married Ann Swan b abt 1869 and died 20 Aug 1937.  They lived in Kirkcaldy and had seven children: twins Annabelle Swan and Thomas; Mary , Normant Elizabeth Chalmers, Jess, George and James.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

How sure are you that George Swan and Margaret Wishart are the parents of James? Might just be a coincidence but there is a James Swan born in 1840 in Dunfermline to John Swan & Isabella Chalmers.

Thank you for your reply.  I am not at all sure about George Swan & Margaret Wishart being James Swan's parents.  I would appreciate any additional information you may have.  Thank you so much.

You can find the birth record that I mentioned on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. Search on old parish registers - births & baptisms. I put in his name, Fife and date range 1835-1845. Several possibilities came up and that one looked the most likely.

It is a pay site. You need to buy credits. It will cost you one credit to access the index showing the record. Then to view the actual document you will have to pay 5 credits.
