Searching for birth of John Dobbie C 1836. marriage in OPR for Anderston Glasgow to Jane Mcindoe 1854 gives his occ as Tinsmith age 18 born Edingurgh

Have you tracked him through the census?  Do you know when he died?  If in Scotland, the death certificate will give some clues: parents' names are included (but note that the person who ought to know these best is the one whose death is being recorded!)

Thanks for all replies, Lockhart Dobbie is not part of my family. My John Dobbie moved from Glasgow To Liverpool UK in 1866, I have the family on the 1861 census Glasgow and the 1871,1881,1891 and 1901 census Liverpool, its pre 1861 info I need. A kind person in Australia sent me a history of the family but not going back beyond 1861.
